Home on a Saturday ... its been a little while since I've done this. I cooked dinner + watched Dark City w/ my roommate instead of going out and blacking out. Weird. I know. Stop judging.
She did just tell me that I can stay here longer if I want!! That is such a relief because I've been freaking out about what to do -- I told her I would move in January, but now I'm realizing that I have no money saved and nowhere to go really. She's going to verify in the next week or so ... hopefully I'll just be staying put.
I'm starting a sketch journal tomorrow or Monday. I'm going to draw something every day ... and resist the urge to scribble things out +/or tear pages out AND it will not become a grocery / to-do list like every other book I start.
P.S. I am OBSESSED with Freaks & Geeks. I just finished watching the series today (18 episodes only) and really wish there was more. Yeah: I'm a junky.
I want to go to the GGRD Band Night on Thursday. I just want to be a derby girl.
Even though I was sick all weekend, I still had so much fun! On Saturday we saw Mary Poppins which was AMAZING! 1. I <3 Mary Poppins 2. The sets were so cool! 3. The costumes were gorgeous 4. Its MARY POPPINS!! Afterwards we went to Todai. Its a Japanese/Seafood Buffet/Heaven on 32nd St. Sushi, crab legs, hot + cold dishes, the cutest desserts, and on and on. Soup. Skewers. Drool. I think I'd like to make it a monthly thing to visit there. The food was super fresh!
Sunday I met up w/ them again + we shopped around SoHo. They are some sneaky little girls: I was in love w/ this bag and they actually bought it for me. I had no idea until they handed it to me outside of the store. This was in Tutu which is the size of a walk in closet. I LOVE IT! One of my cousins purchased a gorgeous Prada bag.
Sunday night we wanted to go to Lucky Cheng's for a drag show/dinner, but 2 of the girls changed their minds. So we had super yummy Indian in SoHo then actually made it to the Comedy Cellar in West Village. We sat in front + there were four of us. Every single comic that came on stage decided it was necessary to pick on our table. Of course! How can you not mess w/ 4 Asians?! It was so insanely funny though. One guy was talking about how jealous he was because he wanted to be a ninja. One guy was talking about how we were messing up the curve for everyone. Heehee...it was fantastic. Darrel Hammond from SNL did a set. I think he was WASTED. Sherrod Small from VH1's Best Week Ever did a set also - I met him outside. I'm such a moron - he actually wanted to chat + I ran away. I'm just socially awkward sometimes.
Right before the comedy show, we had time to kill so: WE SAW A PSYCHIC. I had my palm read and still haven't told ANYONE about it. I need to write it all down because I will forget. In fact, I've probably already forgotten most of it. I will do a separate post with the story.
I arrived in NY 1 year ago, eager to start my internship + see what the world of fashion held for me. I finished that internship in December 2006(which completed my schooling) + they brought me back in January after I *officially* moved all of my belongings up. I started out freelance, then became official in April. I am the assistant / associate designer now - collecting one raise in my time there. I've also managed to make it to Europe for the first time (London + Paris) on their dime. Its been a crazy year for my career! I have learned an immense amount + am amazed at how far I have come in such a short period of time both in career + personally.
Of course, much of this time I have felt ungrounded + can honestly say I've had no idea what was going on half of the time. I was thrown into the deep end when all I could do was doggy paddle. I'm still learning all the strokes, but its so much easier for me to stay afloat now. I can't wait to see what else will be thrown my way...

Au'revoir!
Friday - I was so absorbed in re-reading Breakfast of Champions by Mr. Vonnegut, that I decided to just sit on the F train and keep right on reading (which is now my new most favorite thing). I traveled down to Coney Island, got out + walked around. It was drizzling, but it was nice. In the book, Kilgore goes to a movie. So I decided I needed to see a movie. I looked up a theater on my phone + made my way to Pavilion Theater in Prospect Park. I wanted to see Superbad, but it was sold out. So I saw Stardust instead. It was cute! It was just the escape I needed from everyday life.
$11 to get in.
$7 for a small popcorn + a small coke.
The movie theater experience is not cheap.
Small screening room of about 60 seats, the best purple plush movie seats EVER. Overall, I loved the theater! But other reviewers don't seem so happy with the place.
Saturday - Mouse in the house. I feel so bad for the little guy.
Went to check out the Brooklyn Indie Market. Quiet honestly, I was disappointed. Maybe I was expecting something bigger. Maybe I was expecting something different. I dunno. The idea of it is super cute. Then again, I was feeling cranky. I will give it another go this weekend.
Afterwards, I made my way back to Coney Island. This time it was for a movie playing at the Coney Island Museum. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Its an Australian flick about 3 drag queens that buy a bus + travel to Alice Springs for a show. $5 + free popcorn! Yes, you sit in plastic lawn chairs, but its a really cool experience.
Met up w/ Airianne for some drinks at The Four-Faced Liar afterwards. I love 4Faced. Drinks are cheap for the most part ($2 PBR, $5 wines, $4 vodka) + usually the bartender will pick up your 3rd round. Just be sure you tip them.
Sunday - I'm being so incredibly LAZY. I was going to cook a bunch of stuff today, but I'm just not into it. In fact, its already 11 pm and I haven't even eaten dinner. I'm thinking Ramen.
No I did not. This was an arrangement in the Grand Hyatt at Grand Central. read more
